Steven Earle has a BSc in Geology from the University of B.C. and a PhD in Geochemistry from the University of London. He worked in the mineral exploration industry for 20 years and has been teaching Geology at Malaspina for the past 15 years. His academic and research interests include environmental geology, earthquakes, groundwater geochemistry, the sedimentary rocks of eastern Vancouver Island, energy and the environment and the teaching and learning of science.
The photo was taken in Hawaii in May of 2007 while on a field trip with students. That is a lava-tube in the background. There is 1000+ degree lava flowing under my feet!
