United Students, I appreciated your choice of a mobility impairment: having to get around on crutches is something many of us have to face at one time or another -- & it's only then that we discover how un-accommodating the world is to people with mobility issues! I also liked your choice of ‘Dora the Explorer' as your mobility limitation poster child. It seems that you may have actually conducted a simulation (you mention that "you think you know but you have no idea"), but your presentation certainly would have been stronger if you had documented your experience. You do raise some of the problems involved for people with crutches, but you don't identify much in the way of solutions or universal design modifications (other than riding the bus). Finally, you could have gained some easy points if you had tried to generate some dialogue. At any rate, your technical expertise continues to improve & this powerpoint was better than your last! Congratulations on staying with it until the end & thanks for your contributions. <

As always, Dattebayo, your use of visuals is exemplary & this extended pdf was a pleasure to look at. Nevertheless, I didn't see any evidence of you having carried out a simulation activity (which is clearly specified in the challenge criteria). Your modified theatre could meet the needs of participants with both normal hearing & no hearing but I thought you could have better highlighted the potential for accommodating a continuum of functioning. You include no references & (I hate to harp on this) once again your written English would have benefitted from an editor. You did gain points for your attempts to generate dialogue! <

I agree with Ann Lu: you guys definitely did your research, organized your information & referenced appropriately. I would have liked to see some more description & documentation about how your actual simulation went. Surely you didn't try actually DRIVING while wearing the lotion-smeared googles, but what *did* you try to do? I would also have appreciated some concrete solutions or examples of how universal design would help someone with macular degeneration. Your score was brought down by limited (if any?) generation of dialogue... Congrats on hanging in there & showing steady improvement over the past 6 weeks! <

Your narration was good (audio a little off, as you noted); Fraser's acting was amazing! He looks like the real (??) Last of Barrett's Privateers. I don't think your decision to use a pirate to illustrate an extreme loss of manual dexterity was offensive in any way. My only critique was that your presentation focussed mainly on PERSONAL adjustments to ability loss, rather than ENVIRONMENTAL adaptations or universal design. Very well done, A-team! Your simulation was informative, detailed, and highly entertaining. Narration was excellent. I appreciated the way in which you presented disability challenges vs. "back-up plan" accommodations (cleverly illustrated in B&W vs. colour). Your presentation illustrated some good applications of universal design. You included a variety of experiences: not just the physical challenges of a simulated loss of ability, but also some of the emotional impact. Nice work! <
