Multipurpose Shower Fixture

March 16, 2008 - 7:53pm — sbone

The task of showering can be challenging for young, elderly, disabled and able bodied users.  The difficulties a standard shower head can cause on various users include: reaching, strength, height, maneuvering and adjustability.  The multi purpose shower fixture is designed to provide equal opportunities for all users to bath independently, safely and comfortably.  The original shower head design works well for tall able bodied users. However, a user that is young, short, elderly, or disabled may find that the original design is difficult to adjust and reach.  By maintaining the high shower head tall users are still included in the design.  This fixtures hand-held device maximizes children, elderly and disabled user’s ability to use, reach and adjust the controls.  The addition of a hand-held device with a main shower head makes this design universal as many more users can perform the task of showering with ease.  Additionally, this design will minimize the physical strain, psychological frustration and injury caused from uncomfortable posture.

Dueling showers

Neat idea - wish I had set that up in my new shower with dueling shower heads. Guess I was not thinking ahead!

The design for the shower stall itself needs to be one with the sloped drain in the middle with in-floor sliding doors. I have seen such a shower in one of the more expensive rooms in a hotel tour. Makes me wonder always with any of these is what is the added cost for accessibility in public areas? What is the price/cost for not?
