Ever heard of a universal remote? Is it really universally designed?

The controller that I analyzed is not actually a universal remote; it is the controller for my DVD player. While I examined this controller, I realized that it has twenty-six buttons that I have never even used! I decided to eliminate the unnecessary complexity and incorporate only the most important buttons. I also noticed that there is very little contrast between the buttons and the background. I decided that the buttons should be high contrast to make them easier to find. With the most important button, (on/off) I made it larger and red to make it very visible.

I made the controller thinner and lighter, which makes it easier to handle for everyone. I incorporated larger buttons so that if one could not pick up the controller easily, one could simply leave it on the table and press the buttons. They are also large enough, that the smallest or the largest finger can easily press them. The printing on the controller is not only extremely tiny, it is also in English. I decided that having symbols as the buttons would make it easier to understand; and having the symbols raised up as the actual buttons meant that anyone would only have to feel the buttons to know which one they were pressing.

I also propose that the controller have a tracking device on the television/DVD player which would track the controller both by audio and visual cues.

Overall, I feel that this remote would appeal to the whole population because it is simple, and easy for anyone to use. What do you think?
