Grand Finale Wrap Up Party
Wrap Up Party?
Amanda of the A-Team asks in her post “Is there going to be a wrap-up party for D2BD? It would be cool to meet everyone in real life although I'm sure not everyone would be able to make it because of location.”
The Dare2BDigital production team has been talking about a Grand Finale Wrap Up party for a couple of weeks now. We thought we’d post our draft thoughts here to this discussion forum and invite comments and suggestions from everyone.
We like the idea of having a party and bringing everyone together to meet face to face. The option we’ve been discussing most is having the grand finale wrap up party at the winning teams location. Everyone would be invited to come – all teams, sponsors, faculty experts, judges, … We’re thinking some kind of reception with food and drink followed by a final Elluminate webcast for thanks and handing out of all prizes. The webcast would enable everyone who has been involved but can’t make it to the party location to still participate vicariously.
Items for discussion –
Is everyone OK with doing it at the winning team location? If not, other suggestions?
When should we schedule this? The Dare2BDigital production team has been thinking either March 26, 27, or 28. Are there any preferences with regard to these dates? Are other dates better?
What time should we schedule it for? We’ve been doing the webcasts in the evening at 8 pm. Should we stick with that? Would it be better to do it say at noon? Other suggestions?
We thought you’d all like to contribute to creating the Dare2BDigital grand finale wrap up party so please go ahead and post your ideas. There are lots of things to consider beyond where, when, and what time so feel free to post your questions and suggestions here for discussion.
As Amanda says in a separate post “One challenge to go! It's kind of sad and kind of exciting at the same time!”
Dare2BDigital has been a blast and we’re looking to send off season one with a bang. Look forward to your suggestions.

Sounds like a party
March 26, 27, 28 are good for me but i think dan has work on 27 and 28, March 26 would be the ideal date.
Venue-wise, it would be difficult for me to get to Victoria if League of Notion won. Somwhere in Lower Mainland sounds good, but then again it might be difficult for League of Notion to get here too. Near the end of semester, my team usually has final projects to submit, but we would try our best to accommodate.
Awesome suggestion though Amanda!

Sounds like fun!
It would be nice to meet everybody since I can only recognize everybody from Dare2B Digital by their 1 cm x 1 cm profile picture!
Althought I think it would be fair to hold the party at the winning team's location, it may not be logistically favourable. With the most of the teams located in the Lower Mainland (and BCCampus.ca based in Vancouver)...maybe having the party in Vancouver (or in the Lower Mainland) is a better idea.
It all depends on which venue you can secure as well, right? Maybe you can put it to a vote when you can narrow down some possible venues. Whatever location, it should be accessible by public transportation for most of the contestants.
Hm...as for prospective dates, March 26 and 27 are no goes for Angel and I (we have our dreaded Organic Chemistry midterm the night of the 27th).
Those are my two cents! I hope the party plan flies. :)

Hey, if it's in the Lower Mainland (in particular, downtown Vancouver), there's a good chance I'd be able to make it! I'd love to meet the team members in person. And I'm sure some of the participants would love the chance to "accidentally" spill some beer on me. :)

Save the alcohol
Why waste good alcohol? I think boring into the back of your head with evil glares will suffice. ;) Of course, we'll all be mollified once the prizes are handed out (prizes are like presents..yay!).
Where've you been SBocska? Our team missed your er...unique...comments! :)

General Plan
Thanks for the feedback and interest.
We know it will be difficult to pick a day, time, and location that allows everyone to attend.
What we thought we'd do is ask the winning team to pick a Saturday that works for their entire team to come to a location in downtown Vancouver. Location be be determined - especially given Steve's interest in having beer spilled on him.;) We'd then invite everyone who participated to join us - teams, judges, experts, sponsors, ... In conjunction with the face to face gathering we'd like to do a live webcast, like we've been doing every Monday night, so anyone interested in participating in the party could vicariously join in over the Internet.
Thats the plan for now.
Stay tuned for more developments.

Clearly we should just all
Clearly we should just all meet on a Ferry boat, and we can bond by hiding in the bathrooms at either end so we can get free trips back and forth.

Bathrooms, yeah, convenient
Bathrooms, yeah, convenient on a number of levels. I like the ferry boat idea. Or maybe we could book the Vancouver Airport South Terminal holding lounge (my 2nd home, at times).

So we've figured out that
So we've figured out that the only time that works for the League is the evening of the 29th. Because Fraser has work, and Shannon and I have the last session of tutoring until 3pm, we can make the 5pm ferry. Depending on location, we could probably be wherever by... 8ish?
Does this work?

Evil Norton
Okay, now here's the question for Dattebayo: do you have time to get Evil Norton t-shirts printed before the 29th? I can pre-pay with PayPal or something if it helps.

Bums. Apparently the evening of the 29th doesn't actually work. Unfortunately, if the event becomes rescheduled not all of us will make it. In fact, perhaps only two of us will make it.

That's good to hear, since I WAS DEFINITELY free on the 29th, and wasn't looking forward to being responsible for the wasting of so much alcohol. :)

The plans are in action
We are currently planning the wrap-up party, organizing a date/time that works for the winning team and sponsors. We will announce the details within the week. There will most likely be an official prize ceremony and playing of the highlight reels, and then an unofficial after party at a separate location. We will send the official details to all the teams via e-mail.
Stay Tuned!

Tentative Meeting Time
We've confirmed the date and time for the wrap up party as March 29th, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Location is still to be confirmed. As I mentioned previously, we will be sending an email to the teams once the details are finalized.

Why's BC gotta be such a
Why's BC gotta be such a bloody big province? I'd love to meet the other participants somewhere out there in the big blue room, but between work and classes and the upcoming exam season, I think we'll all be working over full-time and none of us get proper weekends. I presume a site in Vancouver would be accessible to the most student participants, but I don't know if any of us islanders would be able to day trip for it.
