Google Map Mystery Image….
After
racking my brain for a mysterious picture, I decided to be daring in the
digital world and went hunting in one of the last unexplored frontiers of this earth,
the internet. Below is my screen shot
'picture' of a MYSTERIOUS Google Maps location.
Also below are some clues as to what and where this MYSTERIOUS image
is. I invite you to locate the mass in
this image using your 'digital magnifying glass' tool known as http://www.wikimapia.org/.
Navigate to this site and try and locate the "mass" in my
picture. Once located, find the user
generated content box that I have submitted with title "Dare2BDigital
Challenge:_____." Once in this box,
leave a comment with your name and date and a “D2BD” signature to prove that
you have what it takes to be a digital detective, daring and cunning enough to
find this location….
CLUES:
-
This 'mass' spans over two provinces
-
This 'mass' drains into 3 bodies of water including the Pacific Ocean, Arctic
Ocean and Atlantic Ocean
-
This 'mass' is so large (325 sq' KM) that it creates its own weather system and
can receive up to 23 feet of snow per year not to mention the fact that it is
up to 365 meters deep in some places
-
Sadly, this 'mass' claims innocent lives from time to time. So be safe, and check it out from the safety
of your internet browser
Good Luck!

Where to chat?
Hi Sandy,
I was just wondering how the discussion about the submissions will be held. Will it be held on some sort of chat client? Or via the forums? Also, exactly how much time are we allowed to spend on pursuading the audience?
Thanks!

Found it (well, my family did)
So, I have the patience of a gnat, but my husband and daughter were all over this map! They read the clues, used logic (as opposed to me randomly clicking on all the tags hoping to hit the right one) and had a lot of fun in the process. Thanks!

Hi I'm Virginia's daughter and my dad and I found the place for her. My mom gave up after about a minute, then my dad looked around a bit and gave up and let me try. After I read the part about wether paterns my dad knew right away because he thought about Chinooks. That was a lot of fun...thanks for sharing that with everyone.

Dare 2B Convincing
Great Questions Friz
The submission discussions will be held in our Elluminate Live Online Meeting Room Monday at 8pm.
On Monday we will post an Enter Meeting Room login button on the home page of the event site. You can enter from there or by following the link below.
>>Enter Elluminate Live Online Meeting Room.
New to Elluminate? Visit the Elluminate Website for details and instructions. A headset microphone will ensure good quality audio.
Each Team and Citizen Gumshoe will have 2 minutes to persuade, engage, enthrall and entice the audience and judges to vote for them. This persuasion is meant to be fun and entertaining and is of course optional. We want to focus more on the game participants and a take time to celebrate the creations.
Looking forward to seeing your mysterious picture and hearing your arguments.
Sandy

I wouldn't want to be there...
Somehow the ghost town seems warmer and nicer...

I actually didn't even have
I actually didn't even have to use the wikimap tool, because as soon as I looked at the picture I recognized it from a Geography class last semester. I guess going to lectures really does help!

Take a 'Google' at This Picture!
Doug and I were split on this entry. He liked the idea it used Google Earth. As for me, I was fumbling around the planet trying to find this location Virginia spoke about.
I give her credit for using Google in a creative way. This software application always amazes me. Having immediate access to satellite images from the comfort of your own home is so wild. As a child, I remember looking at spy satellite images in of secret bases or landscape images in magazines or newspapers. You had limited access to this sort of thing back in the late 1960's and mid 1970's (oops...the dinosaur dates himself).
Goshdarned youngsters and their fancy internets!

confused
Anthony, forgive me but perhaps I failed to understand the theme of this learning challenge? Is it not to embrace and enhance technology in a creative manner, while teaching and giving exposure to new technological tools available? It does not instill much confidence to submit entries going forward if they are not being seen for what they are.
Not trying to be rude, this was just a thought.
ps. I'm Station, not Virginia.

Unexplored Frontier
I braved the journey and found myself in a place where time is measured in millennia. Not willing to be part of the ancient elemental dance, I marked my visit and returned unscathed.
(.......I was surprised that I wasn't the first daring and cunning detective to locate the mass.)
One of the requirements for this challenge is to engage and involve, so we thought it would be fun to let the online audience share in voting. We therefore have extended the voting time by 16 hours. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to join us live, online, Monday at 8pm and take a few minutes to convince, persuade, and woo the audience.
After hearing from all the entrants, the online participants in attendance will be able to vote for their favorite Citizen Gumshoe . Afterwards, the judges will balance the online session scores with their own and announce the winner Tuesday at noon.
Good Luck Gumshoe!
