Dare 2B Digital

How to Play

Dare2BDigital: The Online Learning Challenge is an exciting new online game that challenges post-secondary students from across BC to put their creative and technical skills to the test while competing for some incredible prizes.

Dare2BDigital is a six-week event broadcast “live” over the Internet. It combines game show and reality television features in which student teams compete with each other in a series of challenges based on unique online learning resources developed by BC post-secondary institutions.

Student Teams

Student teams discuss their experiences in blogs and forums throughout the week and respond to the weekly challenges by creating video or audio clips, interviews or news shows, photographs, slide shows, written submissions or other media. It is different each week.

Teams have from Monday 8:00 p.m. PST to Sunday 8:00 p.m. PST to complete and submit their weekly challenge.

Audience Members

Register as an audience member and compete for prizes and/or cheer for your favourite team. We welcome local, national and international audience participants of any age.

You can win prizes by taking part in the weekly audience challenge announced Monday 8:00 p.m. PST. You have until the following Sunday 8:00 p.m. PST to put in your submission.

Support your favorite time through blogs, forums and voting. You can comment in the blogs and
forums any time. Voting for a team takes place weekly from Sunday 8:00
p.m. PST to Monday 7:00 p.m. PST.

Judging

Judges will evaluate the weekly student team and audience submissions. Judges will evaluate student team submissions based on:

o Registered audience participation with the team by blog, forum and votes for their submission
o Effectiveness
o Innovation and creativity using the specified new media technology
o Quality
o Entertainment value

Scoring the Team Submissions

There are two components to Dare2BDigital team ratings - judge scores and audience votes.

Each week the judges give each team's challenge submission a score out of 100. Scores from all judges are combined and averaged to generate a single judge score for each team submission. The criteria used by the judges to rate team challenge submission are effectiveness, innovation & creativity, quality, entertainment value, and engagement & participation. Each of these are weighted equally.

Team challenge submissions are also open to audience voting. Each week all Dare2BDigital registered participants can vote for the one team submission they think is best.

For each challenge the Dare2BDigital production team can set a weighting for how much of the overall score is based on judge score and how much on audience voting. For challenge one the weighting was 80% judge score, 20% audience voting. For challenge two the weighting is 85% judge score and 15% audience voting.

At the end of the judging and voting period the Dare2BDigital event engine combines the judge score and audience voting to generate the team score for that weeks challenge.

Weekly team winners are based on the score for that weeks challenge.

Each week the current challenge score for each team is averaged with the previous weeks challenge score(s) to come up with an overall score for each Dare2BDigital team. The Leaderboard shows this aggregated score. The Leaderboard is modeled after golf in that it shows overall standings based on scores over multiple challenges.

Dare2BDigital grand prizes and runner up prizes will be based on each team's aggregate final score at the end of the six weeks.

Prizes

Each week a prize will be awarded for the best team challenge submission. At the end of the six weeks, a grand prize will be awarded to the team with the highest overall score. Runner up prizes will be awarded to the second and third place teams. The remaining teams will receive subsidiary prizes. Every team completing the event wins a prize.

Registered audience members are eligible to win prizes by participating in the weekly audience challenge.
